The Harbourside Forum meets once a month to discuss ways of making the area as attractive as possible to all visitors. Topics of discussion range from keeping the area clean and tidy to planning for forthcoming events, festivals or holidays. Since the Forum’s conception crime in the area has reduced, largely due to a number of initiatives and information sharing between all of the venues.

Taxi Rank in Canon's Road no longer Marshalled

April 07

Safer Bristol Partnership informed the Forum that as of Friday 6th April, the taxi rank on Canon’s Road would no longer be marshaled.

It was hoped that the rank would be utilized more by both the general public and the taxi trade. However, after 8 weekends of operation, only 8 and 10 people were recorded using the Marshalled service on either a Friday or Saturday night (in spite of numerous efforts to promote the rank). Suffice to say, this was not proving cost effective and was the main reason for the decision to cease provision of Marshals.

Harbourside Marshals

January 07

Announcing two very exciting initiatives that are being piloted in the area.

Harbourside Marshals - Fully trained staff including a qualified medic, will patrol the Harbourside area on Friday and Saturday evenings from 10.30pm to 2.30am. In high-vis' jackets they will act as the "eyes and ears" of the Harbourside, removing discarded rubbish, assisting door staff, generally helping visitors to the area and discouraging anti-social behaviour before it gets out of hand.

Marshalled Taxi Rank – There is to be an additional taxi rank located in Canon’s Road. The taxi rank will operate between 11pm and 3am on Friday and Saturday evenings. Marshals will ensure that there is no queue jumping or general misbehaviour. They are equipped with CCTV head cameras to capture images for future prosecution if necessary.

Christmas Charity Collection

December 06

Over the Christmas festivities the Forum helped support CLIC Sargent in raising some money for their cause. All venues worked together to grant access for the collections to take place. Many thanks to all our patrons who also took part and gave so generously. There are plans to do the same next year, only bigger and better!!!

Pee Patrol

September 06

The Forum members are supporting the Police with their latest initiative to prevent people urinating in public places. Offenders caught uinating are given the option of either cleaning up after themselves, using hard brushes and detergent, or face an on the spot fine of £80 and possibly being reported to the Magistrates Court to explain their actions.

Positive News Story!

August 06

The Bristol Evening Post ran a two page spread reflecting a balanced view of the Harbourside and the Harbourside Forum's work. It reads "Inspector Mike Cox, who is in charge of policing in the city centre, said the forum had been a great help in reducing the level of violence on the waterfront. He said: "The area is improving, thanks massively to the Harbourside Forum."

Website Creation

April 06

www.harboursideforum.co.uk was created as a means of opening communication with the outside. The site invites everyone to provide feedback, comments or suggestions on say, their experience of the Harbourside, the work of the Forum and how success can best be achieved.

BADI Scheme

January 06

Each Venue Forum member has agreed to actively participate in the BADI (Bristol Against Disorder Initiative) Scheme, which is coordinated by Avon & Somerset Police. This involves the Police issuing photographs of those convicted of crime and disorder in the area so that door staff can identify them and decline them entry to the venue.

Collective Exclusion

December 05

This initiative has seen the Forum collectively agreeing that anyone excluded from one venue will be excluded from all. This is put into practice through the use of a networked two-way radio system that allows door staff from each venue to communicate effectively with each other.

Conception

November 05

In recognition of the bad reputation that the Harbourside area of Bristol was attracting the Hrabourside Forum was created. Co-ordinated by the Safer Bristol Partnership and Avon & Somerset Police, the first meeting brought together local businesses and stakeholders to open discussions around the problems facing the area and to initiate actions to bring about change.
